We stand in solidarity with our students and their families

The Woods Project exists to improve the life trajectories of Houston high school students from low-income communities, the majority of whom are people of color. In a world far too impacted by institutional racism and systemic inequality, we seek to provide our students with the tools they need to find and develop their voices to work toward change. Our students are bright and engaging and reflective and kind; they are not limited by their aptitude, but rather by a societal attitude of discrimination.

The tragic and senseless killings of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor and so many others, remind us to remain steadfast to our core belief- that the young people of The Woods Project, inspired by the beauty and wonder of nature, the wisdom of mentors and the affirmation of their infinite value and worth, can become ever greater, smarter, stronger and more visionary individuals.

All the more so in this moment, TWP stands in solidarity with our students and their families. We believe in their potential and we remain committed to providing them with life altering experiences and opportunities. TWP students will indeed change the world, paving one new path after another. May we all maintain steadfast in our belief that each and every one of us is worthy of the bountiful blessings of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

With hope,
