Volunteer and Operations Manager
The Volunteer and Operations Manager reports to the Finance & Operations Director, and also supports both Program and Development. This person will be responsible for ensuring that the organization is fully supporting and making the best use of volunteers.
Responsibilities include management of volunteer program, including digital event management and social media promotion, as well as assistance with operations, including gear management. The ideal candidate is cheerful and adaptable, functions well in a fast-paced environment with limited resources, is able to manage a wide variety of tasks simultaneously, and will excel in being a part of a close-knit team.
Responsibilities:
- Volunteerism
- Manage organization’s volunteer program, including recruiting, communicating with, supervising, and providing feedback and recognition to volunteers, while ensuring compliance with organization’s policies
- Ensure volunteer event success through planning adequately, communicating both before and after each event, securing equipment and supplies, and creating an atmosphere of inclusivity and positivity
- Design and disseminate mass emails using organization’s marketing software and collaborate with staff on writing content for communications regarding volunteerism
- Manage volunteer database, background checks, registration, and postings
- Facilitate/coordinate volunteer orientation sessions and appreciation events
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with volunteers to increase engagement
- Help coordinate summer airport departure days
- Attend trainings and workshops that will broaden depth, scope, and outreach of volunteer program
- Identify additional volunteer opportunities within the organization as well as volunteer recruitment opportunities
- Operations
- Support the management, cleaning, packing/unpacking and maintenance of gear, as well as trip shopping and other warehouse projects as needed
- Oversee first aid kit preparation and the assembly of backpacking meals
- Provide other operations support as needed
- Provide program support as needed
Qualifications:
- Required
- Bachelor’s degree
- Enthusiasm for with working with volunteers
- Salesforce or other data management experience
- Ability to work independently, with volunteers, and as part of a team
- Ability to take initiative, prioritize, and juggle multiple tasks while meeting deadlines
- Strong communication, organization, and writing skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office
- Comfort being hands-on and getting dirty
- Availability for some nights, weekends, and possibly summer weeks
- Preferred
- Love for the outdoors and/or working with youth from under-resourced communities
- Spanish proficiency

Salary Range: $38,000 – $44,000 Commensurate with experience
