We will have four groups hiking the Four Notch Loop and the Lone Star Hiking Trail. The groups will hike about 10 miles total over the course of Saturday and Sunday. DESCRIPTION:Galveston State Park or Turkey Creek Backpacking\nGalveston State Park:  Galveston is a great location for kayaking with opportunities to see the beach and the bay. We are partnering with Texas Parks and Wildlife for our kayak weekend in Galveston Bay. This is a great opportunity for the students to see a different side of Galveston Island. Both Friday and Saturday evening will be spent at Galveston State Park.\n \nTurkey Creek Backpacking:  You can’t beat backpacking in the fall in Texas! Please join us for a great weekend exploring a section of the Big Thicket National Preserve! On Saturday\, the group will head out to the Turkey Creek Trail. Three groups of hikers will hike 12 miles in total between Saturday and Sunday morning. Saturday evening will be spent at a campsite along the trail. SUMMARY:Sleeping Bag Wash Day
DESCRIPTION:Come help us wash & dry our sleeping bags!\nEvery summer we put our down sleeping bags through a lot of use and by the end they are in desperate need of washing. Now is the time to prepare them for our upcoming weekend camping trips. The most challenging part is drying our down sleeping bags which requires low heat and careful handling. The morning shift will meet at the TWP warehouse on 6910 Renwick and the second shift will meet at the LaundroLab laundromat. DESCRIPTION:Lake Livingston Kayaking or Memorial Park Backpacking\nLake Livingston Canoeing/Kayaking:  The Woods Project will once again be partnering with Texas Parks and Wildlife through Texas Outdoor Families. We will spend both Friday and Saturday nights camping along the shores of Lake Livingston at Lake Livingston State Park. On Saturday\, the group will be split into two so everyone will spend a half day of out on the water kayaking and the other half day hiking\, geocaching\, and fishing. If you have your own boat\, we encourage you to bring it along!\n \nMemorial Park Backpacking:  Please join us this Saturday for a great workshop exploring a section of Memorial Park! We will meet at the park at 9 am and we will spend the morning learning how to pack a backpack and spend some time walking the trails around the park. We should be done by around 1 pm.\n \nREGISTER HERE! \nPlease note:  The trip signup is your opportunity to make your preferences and availability for our weekend trips known.  We will make our best effort to place you on the trip(s) that you have requested.  However\, due to limits on capacity\, as well as the need to maintain a reasonable adult:student ratio\, there may be trips where we do not have space for every leader who would like to attend. DESCRIPTION:The Walk for The Woods Project \nThe Woods Project is hosting our 13th annual Walk for The Woods Project event\, presented by ENGIE\, on Saturday\, October 26\, 2024 at BakerRipley- Ripley House. DESCRIPTION:Martin Dies Jr Service Project or Turkey Creek Backpacking\nMartin Dies\, Jr.:  The Woods Project will once again be partnering with Texas Parks and Wildlife through Texas Outdoor Families. We will spend both Friday and Saturday nights camping along the shores of Steinhagen Reservoir at Martin Dies\, Jr. State Park. On Saturday we will be working with the Texas Conservation Association and help them plant around the park.\n \nTurkey Creek Backpacking:  You can’t beat backpacking in the fall in Texas! Please join us for a great weekend exploring a section of the Big Thicket National Preserve! On Saturday\, the group will head out to the Turkey Creek Trail. Three groups of hikers will hike 12 miles in total between Saturday and Sunday morning. Saturday evening will be spent at a campsite along the trail.
