We will day hike parts of the 655-acre sanctuary\, exploring the local fauna and wildlife. This trip will combine camping with a service learning project to help maintain and preserve the area. \nSam Houston National Forest: This is a great opportunity for your students and leaders to have a glimpse of what to expect on their summer trip. We will have four groups hiking the Four Notch Loop and the Lone Star Hiking Trail. The groups will hike about 10 miles total over the course of Saturday and Sunday. We are looking for folks of all skill levels – from first-time backpackers to experts! \nREGISTER HERE! \nPlease note:  The trip signup is your opportunity to make your preferences and availability for our weekend trips known.  We will make our best effort to place you on the trip(s) that you have requested.  However\, due to limits on capacity\, as well as the need to maintain a reasonable adult:student ratio\, there may be trips where we do not have space for every leader who would like to attend. DESCRIPTION:This is our biggest gear volunteer day of the year!  On this day\, we will count all of our gear so that we will be prepared for spring and summer trips\, as well as set up all of our tents to ensure that they are in good working order after so much use in the prior summer and fall! \nWe will meet at Bayland Park at 8:45 in order to begin at 9.  A group will stay at Bayland Park for tent setup\, and a group will head over to our warehouse at 6910 Renwick (back side) for gear inventory. \nPlease dress comfortably\, and bring a refillable water bottle.  Breakfast and lunch will be provided. \nIf you have not volunteered with us before\, please fill out our event volunteer form ahead of time for yourself and for anyone that comes with you. \nIf you have any questions\, please contact Adriane Arnold at adriane@thewoodsproject.org. \nPlease REGISTER HERE to attend!

On Saturday\, the group will head out to the Turkey Creek Trail. Three groups of hikers will hike 12 miles in total between Saturday and Sunday morning. Saturday evening will be spent in a campsite along the trail. This is a great way to connect with our students and encourage them as they embark on their journey. \nParking: Volunteers can park close to the Terminals or choose satellite parking.
